Razan

To High Tech High person,

Hi, my name is Razan , 15 years of age 16 in December 27th. I live in a town called Barking which is located in South East London (in Essex). Barking is a multicultural society meaning that loads of people in Barking has different ethnicity (mostly Asian) I live with my parents, brother who is 9 years old, sisters one is 10 (she was born in the 27th of December as well) and the other is 16. I love my family. Any way, I originally come from Lebanon which is located just off the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea. But I was born in London. What I do in my spare time, is listening to music (mainly Punk Rock) and I personally cannot live without a computer, T.V, Mobile Phone and a Ipod. Most of the time I’m going through my phone or watching T.V (Watch three never lasting soap operas).

In my spare time, I usually choose to stay home and watch T.V. sometime I like to go round my mate’s house or have them round my house. When I’m bothered, I’m always out and about. Hanging in parks, shops where I have fun. When I’m also bothered, I do my homework after school. I know I’m boring but this is my life

I go to a school called Barking Abbey Secondary School. In school I’m in year 10 (I think that is 10th grade but I’m not sure). The subjects I took are; Textiles, sociology, Child Development, Drama, Geography, Maths, English, PE (Physical Education), RE (Religious Education) and IT (Information technology). Barking Abbey has a specialist sport centre. The statistics last year in GCSE and A Levels were 68% of the people in this school achieved A* -C grades.

The crime in Barking and Dagenham is mostly to do with vandalism, robbing and also stealing cars and maybe illegal drug addicts. Those are the common ones.

Now it’s your turn please answer the following questions.

Who are you and what do you do?

How is education in your area?

What is the ethnic minority in your area?
All about you

Your view about crime

And many more(just go on and on and on)

Amy-Louise

Hi my name is Amy-Louise, I go to a school in England called barking abbey which is in a pace called barking.. I live with my mum and step dad and two sisters in somewhere called Dagenham. The things I most enjoy doing is singing, dancing, and just going out wit my mates.

There is not a lot to do in my area I normally just hang around on the street with all my mates or go to a place called Chadwell heath, and go into in to a park. There are normally a lot of us out about 20 teenagers all together. I also spend a lot of time with my boyfriend who I have been with for over 4 months now. But I would much rather go out instead of sitting in doors.

The education in this country is very good. And the GCSE rates for A*-C grades in this school is very high.
What is the education where you live like?
The school I go to is a sports college, so everyone has to take PE but you can choose if you want to take it as a GCSE or not.

The main reason I am writing to you is to find out if there is a lot of crime where you live. I just want to ask a few questions about it and would appreciate it if you could answer them.
What crime is committed the most where you live?
Is there a high crime rate where you live?
Are there many people in your school that have been involved in crime or have been a victim of crime?

The highest crime here muggings, car theft, and vandalism.

Iv got to go now. It’s the end of school. But I hope I get an email back ASAP.

Annemarie

Hi,
I’m Annemarie, but everyone calls me Amie. I’m 15 from barking and go barking abbey school, it’s supposedly the best school in our borough but to be honest its just school. I’m in year 10 and doing quite well in school I’m not as dumb as Essex girls are made out to be. Essex girls have a really bad reputation here; everyone seems to think were all easy in a way that we jump into bed with anyone and everyone and it’s even worse if you are blonde with long hair and wear a lot of make-up. If you are one of these girls (like me) then you are seen as dumb as well. Then again Essex boy’s reputation aint much better. I live with my sister Alison who’s 21 and Zara who is 18 also my mum and dad. My boyfriend is Chris he’s 19 and lives in Dagenham. I love living here though cause it aint posh or nothing it’s just relaxed. What’s your name? How old are you? Have you got any brothers or siblings? Do you have a tag name(mine is shawty)? Where about do you live?

Crime here aint that bad it could be a lot worse. Everyone chats on about how crime is bad ere but it really aint it’s a little bad but not as bad as everyone chats. Everyone goes on about how people are getting stabbed every 2 second when it’s only like once every 2 weeks or so. Crime around here is mainly gang crime. Its like 1 person in a gang gets stabbed then that same gang retaliates and stabs someone else then the other gang retaliates and it just doesn’t stop until they’ve all been stabbed. What is the crime like in your area?

Well chat soon init byeeeee J

Katie

To high tech high student,

Hi, my name is Katie. I am 14 years old, 15 on the 30th of June. I live in south-east London in barking town centre. I live at home with my mum and dad and two sisters Natalie who is 18 and about to leave for university and charlotte who is 16 and is in the year above me in my school and doing her g.c.s.e’s and going to collage next year.

I go to barking abbey secondary school, and I am in year 10. At school the subjects I took are sociology, textiles, drama, geography, religious education, physical education, biology, maths, English, I.T and citizenship. I enjoy drama textiles and sociology at school. Last year at barking abbey there was 68% a* - c grades for students. At barking abbey there is a specialist’s sports centre which has a gym in it and runs many clubs that is open to the public after school.

In my spare time I enjoy going out with my friends. I enjoy going to London to go shopping down Oxford Street or to Covent Garden or lesticure square in London’s centre, with my friends. I also enjoy going bowling and pictures or just hanging around with my mates. I also enjoy watching films and listening to music or chatting to my mates on msn.

In barking where I live there is a wide range of many different ethnicities. Just like my school is a very multicultural school with students from many different ethnic backgrounds.

In 2012, the Olympics are coming to London and I am quite exited about it as it would be easy for me to go and watch some of the games. Having the Olympics in London would make to country better as it would have better sports facilities from after the Olympic Games.

In barking I don’t think a lot of crime goes on. I think that the majority of crime that goes on in barking is car crime or muggings.

So what do you like doing in your spare time?

What subjects did you take at school?

Who do you live with?

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Do you think that a lot of crime happens in your area?

Is there a wide range of ethnicities in your area?

What is your area like?

Bye for now.

Katie

Parminder

Hello,
My name is parminder; I’m 15 and am in year 10 at barking abbey school. I live in an area called Barking. Barking is a multicultural area where you have a mixture of other ethnic groups such as; Black, Asians, white and some are immigrants. Barking is a 'ruff' area where many incidents happen such as; mugging but the main offence that is committed in my opinion is drug dealing, this offence is mainly done in the main part of Barking where Barking town centre is.

There is a separation of ethnic groups meaning each different culture has its own gang, mainly the older generation is against this because they feel threatened and their opinion is they can’t live in this society anymore because it is not safe. I live with my family; I got an older brother and a younger sister and am in the middle so I don’t get treated equally, but overall I am happy where I live.

I don’t really have hobbies that I like doing; most of my days are spent with my mates and is in the local park which is barking park, Nowadays us kids don’t really hang on streets because you get into trouble, in my area it is easy to get fags (cigarettes), drugs and alcohol so where ever you look you will see a drunk person or something happening illegal every time.

My school doesn't really have a lot of sex education, but I am lucky to of had 6 lessons of this. In the whole of Europe Barking and Dagenham is among the highest rated teenage pregnancy, this shows that they don’t use protection or otherwise they would be much more careful.

I think that the worst crimes in my area are probably drug dealing and street fighting, another crime that is still being committed is vandalism.

Questions
· What are the crime rates in your area?
· is teenage pregnancy a problem there?
